Name: Prairie Festival
Time: | 2010 |Sept 24 - 26 |
Description: The Land Institute is devoted to developing an agricultural system with the ecological stability of the prairie and a grain yield comparable to that from annual crops.

Wes Jackson co-founded the Institute and is well-known in the local food and sustainable life areas. His friend Wendell Berry will speak on Saturday. The cost is nominal to attend if you can make it to Kansas and the value is priceless.

Here's more about the program.

Quote :
2010 Prairie Festival Presenters:

writer Wendell Berry
artist Matilda Essig
economist Josh Farley
author Scott Russell Sanders
ecologist Sandra Steingraber
Seed Savers Exchange co-founder Kent Whealy
musician Ann Zimmerman
Land Institute president Wes Jackson
Special events: Saturday evening, a special musical presentation, tentatively titled "Perennial Polyculture Suite," by select members of emmy-nominated Wild Blessings and Wilderness Plots - Krista Detor, Tim Grimm, Tom Roznowski, Malcolm Dalglish & Scott Russell Sanders. They honor our prairie prophets and have put the words and ideas of Wendell Berry and Scott Russell Sanders into contemporary songs that are by turns romantic, tragic, and comic - compressing entire lifetimes into a few brilliantly composed stanzas.
