I recently found this book in a bookstore. It is a delight!

The Unencumbered Spirit: Reflections of a Chinese Sage

The notes in the back are also wonderful!

Written by Hung Ying-ming near the end of the Ming dynasty. Combines his knowlege of Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism.
Reflections on effective approach to life, and also very applicable to gardening!

It is also known as the "Saikontan" or "Vegetable Root Discourses".
